Active Child is the work of Pat Grossi, whose sweet falsetto brings a legitimacy to his romantic electro-pop. He returns with this no-nonsense six-song EP, which builds on the magic of 2011’s full-length You Are All I See. British electro-pop diva Ellie Goulding upped Grossi’s profile by making his song “Hanging On” the lead single on her 2012 album Halcyon, and here she offers further support with the duet “Silhouette,” the EP’s clear highlight. Rihanna collaborator Mikky Ekko puts vocals in there with Grossi on the appropriately named “Subtle.” But Grossi's also quite capable on his own. He produced this EP in his home studio, where tracks such as “Calling in the Name of Love” and “Evening Ceremony” present their own definite atmospheres and approaches. The opening wordless track—“She Cut Me,” with Grossi’s vocals still playing an important role in the mix—conveys its emotional content via rhythmic shifts and truncated melodies. And a pure frustration is evident on the romantically neutered “Feeling Is Gone.”
